Eye On The Prize

Eye On The Prize

He stands with a quiet confidence, cap tilted to the side, eyes narrowed with that familiar mix of focus and determination that shows up early in Black childhood. His clothes may be worn, his hands a little rough, but his spirit is steady. He is holding his baseball close, the game matters, something he is not willing to let go. Even at his age, he already knows what it means to protect a dream and stay focused on his target..

In Eye On The Prize, LaKeem captures the inner fire that has carried generations forward. The drawing speaks to the way Black boys learn early to move with intention, to stay sharp, to keep their mind on the goal even when the world tries to distract them. It is a portrait of resilience shaped by culture, family, and every elder who ever whispered keep pushing or stay focused.

Through the honesty of ink and line, LaKeem shows a young boy standing at the edge of who he will one day become. This piece honors the grit and the hope that defines Black youth, reminding us that greatness often begins with a simple choice to hold on tight and keep your eye on what is yours.
