In Between Dreams
This illustration captures a tender moment of rest as two children sit slumped together on a wooden chair, sleep overtaking their small bodies. Their heads tilt inward, limbs relaxed and unguarded, suspended in a shared pause. The composition feels unposed and honest, emphasizing vulnerability and trust in the quiet space they occupy.
The drawing speaks to exhaustion, safety, and imagination at rest. These children are not simply sleeping. They are in between dreams, between play and tomorrow, between effort and becoming. The chair becomes a temporary refuge, holding them as the world slows down. In their stillness, there is no urgency, only breath, closeness, and the comfort of being allowed to rest.
Within Life in Black Ink, this work documents Black childhood beyond performance or struggle. It honors softness, fatigue, and the right to pause. The illustration preserves a fleeting moment where innocence is protected, reminding us that rest is also a form of care, and dreaming does not always happen with eyes open.
